Bury St. Edmunds Basketball Club are delighted to announce the appointment of Rob Lancaster as the club's Lead Strength & Conditioning Coach.

Lascaster is a Loughborough Graduate, and was a finalist for Olympic Qualifying in both the 100m & 200m breast stroke. Rob currently works as Head of Athlete Support at The Hub in Ipswich, and is looking to bring his experience of both being an elite athlete, and developing them, to the Bulldogs Family.

"Within a couple of minutes of speaking to Rob, I just felt that he'd be a fantastic fit at our club." said Head Coach Arron MacDonald. "We brought together a group of senior club officials to meet Rob again - albeit virtually - and we very quickly came to the decision that we wanted Rob to work with us. His knowledge and passion shone through, and we're delighted to welcome him to the Bulldogs Family!"

The club had been looking for a Strength & Conditioning Coach as part of a planned progression of the club this off-season. However, given that the ongoing lay-off due to the Covid-19 crisis significantly increases the risk of injuries upon return, the club felt that it was an even greater priority to bring a dedicated strength & conditioning coach on-board at the earliest opportunity.

"I'm really excited to be working with such a talented group of players and coaches" said Rob, "More than anything though, I'm looking forward to getting started, and helping the club to continue to grow and develop."

In Rob's role as the Club's Lead Strength & Conditioning Coach, he will be responsible for the continuous professional development of club coaches and implementing best practice across the club. Rob will also work at club holiday camps and will join the staff of the Senior Men's National League side.

Rob is keen to also work with the players across the club, in helping them to develop as athletes and has agreed a special discounted rate for working with club members on a one-to-one basis. Rob is also a qualified sports masseuse.

Our club coaches are presently looking into the opportunities for virtual training sessions via the Zoom platform, and this may also extend to some strength & conditioning work with Rob to start our off-season programme.
