Following yesterday’s announcement from the government and our governing body regarding the new strain of the Coronavirus and the impact this has had on London and the South East, our management committee have discussed the next steps for our club, with respects to returning to the floor.
We have tried to look at this situation on a team-by-team basis:
- Our Local League Senior Men & Women’s teams are unable to train at present within “Tier 2”, and at this time, we have no idea of if/when competitive play will be possible.
- Our National League Men play in NBL 3 which is not considered an “Elite” competition – and so training is not permissible at this time. We have no idea of if/when competitive play will be possible.
- At present, we have no idea of a start date for the NYBL – in which all of our Junior sides will play – and as a Central Venue competition, bringing clubs together from across the region, it is our belief that we are not on the verge of a return to competitive action at this time.
In light of this, whilst it is presently permissible for us to run Junior training sessions within Tier 2, the club have decided that we will maintain the same cautious and responsible approach to our return to play that we have from the moment that the Coronavirus first affected us.
In light of this, we are cancelling all training sessions until further notice.
Chairman, Ashley MacDonald added:
“Although we had hoped to return in January, we feel as though we have no option other than to delay our return to the court in order to ensure the safety of our players, coaches and volunteers. We will continue to monitor the situation.”
We are committed to reviewing our approach regularly, and will next look to review this on the week commencing 11th January – by which time our Governing Body will have returned to work, and we can hope for a clearer idea of what the coming weeks and months will bring.
Whilst we, again, understand the disappointment this announcement will bring to some of our members, we hope that everyone can understand and accept the rationale behind our decision.
We hope that everyone has a safe and happy Christmas, and we hope to see you all in the new year.
