Bury St. Edmunds Bulldogs Senior Men's Local League side hosted Big Dog Ballin' this week in Division One of the Suffolk Senior League.
The Bulldogs made a fast start, racing out to a seven point lead through good defence and the fast break attacks of Oli Cowling. Big Dog Ballin' then came back into the game as foul trouble for Ernest Isokpehi and Gareth McKnight disrupted the Bulldogs rhythm, and ended the first quarter ahead by two. The second quarter was a back-and-forth affair with several lead changes, ending with the Bulldogs behind by three at the half. The pace of the game increased in the third quarter. Big Dog Ballin’ took the initiative and built their lead to as many as eleven but Bulldogs fought back to within two points behind good play from Cowling and Jason Sykes. The Bulldogs stayed competitive throughout a tight fourth quarter but couldn’t close the gap enough and finished with a 60-67 loss.

Following the game, Coach Glenn Collins had this to say: "It was a hard fought game today. There wasn’t much between the teams and on another day it could have gone our way, but the scoresheet shows we lost each quarter by one or two points so we can’t argue with the result. After promotion to Division One we were expecting a tough season in Suffolk. Now we’ve played three games and they have all been close which shows we’re up for the challenge.”
Leading scorers for the Bulldogs were Cowling (28), Isokpehi (12) and Sykes (11).
Next up for the Local League Men in the Suffolk League is another home tie against Meru on Sunday 14th November, 6:00pm at Culford Sports Centre.
