Following the recent news from Coach MacDonald as to his concerns for the long-term viability of the club, here are a few ways you can help us...
1. Sign-Up for / Support the Basketball Marathon
Our Basketball Marathon is just a couple of weeks away, and is a great opportunity to bring the club together and raise some much-needed funds. Additionally, 50% of any sponsorship you raise will go towards your season's fees!
You can sign up via the Spond App. If you do not have Spond, and wish to participate in this, please contact us.
If you can't take part, but would like to support the people taking part in the marathon, you can donate via the Paypal Button on our homepage.
2. Sign up for (and Shop at) Summer Camp
Our Summer Camp is run in partnership with Culford Sports Centre, and is one of the biggest opportunities for us to raise funds.
Not only does a share of every booking go to the club, we'll also be running a shop at the camp, selling Gatorade and basketball apparel, including our limited edition summer camp performance t-shirts.
If you book before the end of July, you will receive a free reversible jersey, too!
You can contact the team at Culford to book a place at camp - and remember to bring some cash for the shop!
3. Make Use of Easyfundraising
This is one of the simplest ways to raise funds for the club - and isn't limited to basketball!
Whilst regular shoppers on eBay and Amazon will see up to 1% of their purchase price come to the club, there are potentially thousands of pounds that we're missing out on as a club every year from:
- Motor Insurance (Typically a £15.00 donation)
- Home Insurance (Typically a £15.00 donation)
- Switching energy providers (Typically a £15.00 donation)
- Switching broadband providers (Typically a £40.00 donation)
- Signing up for Sky TV (Typically a £40.00 donation)
If every member of the club (or a parent) simply switched their motor insurance through one of the aggregators available through Easyfundraising, the club would bring in over £3000.00 of additional income next season.
To-date, our club has raised £255.01, however, with the above donations available, over 200 members in the club, and over 4,000 online retailers offering the same great deals for you - with free money for us - Easyfundraising is something we're simply under-utilising as a club.
4. Shop at Always Ballin
Bury St. Edmunds Basketball Club were one of the first participants in Always Ballin's #LoveMyClub scheme.
When you shop with Always Ballin, use the code BULLDOGSFAMILY for a 10% discount for you - and a 20% donation to us!
5. Sponsor Us
If your organisation would be interested in sponsoring one of our players, or supporting the club, please don't hesitate to get in touch!
We have packages available for businesses of all sizes, and will promote your business to aim to ensure return on investment for you.
Player sponsorship is something we're particularly keen on this season - with some of our players having seen a 400% increase in registration costs alone!
6. Use our Club Shop
Our Club Shop has recently been relaunched, in conjunction with Absolute Print & Embroidery.
All profits from the shop go back to the club!
Check out our new range of performance t-shirts, long-sleeves and hoodies here!
7. Become A Booster
We launched our "Booster" scheme as we were preparing for the 2020/21 season - which was abandoned due to the pandemic.
The scheme was aimed at alumni of the Bulldogs Family - whereby for a £30 donation (the price of a takeaway) they could help to support the club in the work we do.
The scheme is open to anybody to make a donation, again, through the paypal button on the homepage of our website.
8. Pay Us if You Owe Us...
Occasionally, people will forget to bring cash to a session, or forget to transfer the money for their subs for the past month...
If you do owe the club money, there's never been a better time for you to proactively resolve this by transferring the funds to us!
9. Volunteer with Us (and support our Events!)
We desperately need more volunteers to come forwards in order to lighten the burden for our existing pool of volunteers - many of whom have described the past eighteen months as "amongst the most difficult experiences in sport."
As a fundraising volunteer, you might have an idea for a fundraising event - or simply be available to help run one of our events - to help us bring some funds into the programme.
It's also really important to us that everyone associated with the club supports our fundraising events - as they'll be some of the best opportunities to bring the whole club together.
10. Sign up for the 2021/22 Season
Membership forms have started to go out for next season - and the remaining teams' forms will be available within a week or two of the club's AGM.
Some of the parents of newer players in our Junior sessions have asked whether we can continue on a Pay As You Go basis. Unfortunately, this isn't viable for our club.
We've operated on a season fee basis for some time now, as it provides us with some degree of financial certainty, and allows our volunteer coaches a clearer idea of numbers week-to-week to assist in their session planning.
Over the past couple of months of casual, pay as you go sessions, the club has seen an average of 25 players across Junior Sessions book onto sessions to either pull out later in the week, or simply not show up on the day - this has resulted in over £1,000 of lost income for the club.
Whilst there is a technological solution to this (whereby parents would pay a non-refundable fee to book their child on), the deduction taken from the booking platform would mean that we would have to raise weekly prices to make this viable.
As such, the simplest way to support us for the season ahead is to commit to us as early as possible - so that we have clear visibility of the number of members we have at the club.
