End of Season Review: Senior Women

This season the saw the Club launch teams across the female side of the club.

It’s fair to say that when the Women’s team sessions began, the longevity of this session was doubted...

With the number of players attending ranging from two to eight, however the sessions continued with all players being hopeful more players would attend. As the Women’s group chat got a lot livelier (thank you Leanne) and previous teammates were invited to the sessions, the number of players started to grow which inevitably saw many players improving and most importantly enjoying the game.

The goal for the season was to set a good foundation for the 2020/21 season and it is amazing to say that as a team, we have achieved this. The team has a real mix of coaching and playing experience but together we’re a great mix. The way the players compliment each other was presented throughout the inter-squad game. Our inter-squad game was great fun, it was the first game ever for some players, the first game others had played for several years. The competitiveness and encouragement in that gym was to be envied. Unfortunately, the rematch didn’t happen but after a 3-point game, the green team were prepared to take the series to 1-1 and the grey team were ready to continue their winning streak.

We’re all really looking forward to the opportunity to build on this when we get back on the court, and have made an expression of interest about joining the Norfolk Basketball League next season, to give the team regular playing opportunities. Finally, the Women’s session has brought to the forefront many positive aspects about the game and our club that isn’t just about basketball.

Players have improved significantly in their skills and their confidence; they have been able to stay active whilst also laughing with their teammates; they have been able to enjoy being themselves in an environment that is both competitive and understanding; but most importantly players have turned teammates into family.

The one thing that all the players have recognised this season is Basketball isn’t just a sport, and this isn’t just a club, it’s a place where everyone is welcome, and the best friendships are formed.

A special thank you goes to everyone who has attended the sessions this season...

For now, stay safe and we can’t wait to get back on the court with you and see what the next season brings!
