Bury St. Edmunds Basketball Club are saddened that Club Treasurer, and U16 Boys Head Coach Sebastian Benford has tendered his resignation from the club.
A standout Junior player at the club who won numerous individual and team accolades throughout his junior and senior playing career, Coach Benford has largely overseen the junior teams at the club over the past five seasons, leading a pair of unbeaten seasons along the way.

"It's been a pleasure being a part of the Bulldogs Family for so long, and I'm thankful for all of the successes I've had the opportunity to be a part of." said Benford, "This club means so much to me, and it's with a heavy heart that I'm stepping away. However, I'm looking forward to seeing the club continue to grown, and will be supporting the club in our future successes."
“I’ve known Seb since the day he walked into our club, almost twenty years ago” said Head Coach Arron MacDonald. “His service to our club as a player, coach and volunteer is almost unparalleled, and it’s safe to say that we wouldn’t be in the position we’re in as a club without his sacrifice, hard work and dedication to growing the game of basketball across West Suffolk."
"Seb has been a fantastic servant to our club – that much is evidenced immediately by the fact that we can’t replace him with just one person! To say he’ll be missed is an understatement, so I hope he takes some well-earned time away from the game, re-focuses, and perhaps returns in the not-too-distant future – he knows that the door is always open for him to do so.”
With Coach Robert Fisher having also stepped-away from the club during the season, the Bulldogs will continue to search for additional coaches for their junior teams, and intend to make an announcement regarding this prior to returning to the court.
“We thank Seb and Rob, on behalf of our club, its players and the whole Bulldogs Family, and we wish them and their families the very best for their future endeavours.” said Chairman Ashley MacDonald.
With the club presently not operating on-court, Coach Benford’s resignation from the U16 Boys Head Coach role is effective immediately, whereas he will remain in-situ as Treasurer until the Club’s 2020 Annual General Meeting, when the club hopes to appoint a new treasurer.
