Whilst the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has meant the cancellation of the 2020/21 season, our club's management committee has continued to seek new ways to engage our members and to grow our sport and our club.

As such, we're delighted to announce that we were successful in attaining funding for a Leadership programme to be run at the club from the Suffolk Community Foundation's #IWill fund.

The aim of the #IWill fund is to encourage young people to take action on the issues that matter to them, focusing on activities including volunteering and fundraising.

Andrea Pittock, the Head of Grant Programmes at Suffolk Community Foundation had this to say about the wider #IWill programme: "Young people have enormous potential to make a positive change in their communities. We're proud to support local groups working with the next generation of volunteers, campaigners and activists who want to make a difference"

Our #IWill Programme at the club is aimed at giving a group of our young members the opportunities, tools and qualifications to become more involved in our sport, and to become better leaders both within the club and our wider community.

The programme will be split into a few key areas:

- Gaining basketball-relevant qualifications, equipment and practical experience

- Access to mentorship

- Fundraising to "Pay it Forwards" and ensure that the programme can continue into the future

Head Coach Arron MacDonald had this to say:

"We pride ourselves on our culture here, and our development of leaders. You only have to look around the members of the senior sides and the volunteers to quickly see so many people who lead professionally.

If you were to ask any of them, they'll tell you about the positive impact of being involved in our sport.

This is an opportunity to further grow our culture, and mentor and empower the future leaders of our club and community. We believe we've designed a superb programme - and one which will only get better year-on-year - and we can't wait to get working with the Junior Leaders. We're also incredibly grateful to the Suffolk Community Foundation for their belief in what we're doing - without them, this wouldn't be possible."

The programme will be open to members aged 14-19, and an email will shortly be sent to explain next steps in order to apply for a place on the programme.
