With the 2018/19 season having drawn to a close, Bury St. Edmunds Basketball Club have been working to offer more basketball for the community of West Suffolk, and help to grow the game in the area.

While the club are still waiting on confirmation of their entry into the National Basketball League, they have moved to secure two new training venues for the club.

Culford School Sports Centre was the Home of the club in the early 2000’s, and will now be the home of the Senior Men’s National League team for training, and the Senior Open Run - a weekly session starting in August aiming to bridge the gap between our ever-popular “Get Back Into Basketball” sessions, our juniors and the Local League men’s side.

Thurston Sports Centre will be the new home of our Get Back Into Basketball sessions from June, but will also be the home of female basketball at the club, as we start Junior and Senior sessions from September at the venue.

The club will continue with Skyliner as a primary venue for fixtures for our teams, with the U16 Boys NBL sessions taking place there, along with our Sunday junior local league sessions which will be focused at U12’s and U15’s next season, before our Senior Local League Men’s fixtures and Sunday training.

“These are moves which have been a long time coming.” said Head Coach Arron MacDonald. “The growth of our club has meant that more sessions have been required for some time, and whilst it’s a little sad that we’re leaving County Upper School, our aim of moving into the National League has meant it was needed in order to better differentiate between the two clubs.”

“We think this is a really exciting move, which holds us up as a club that works across West Suffolk, and believe that this will help us to better serve the growing basketball community in the area.”
