Bury St. Edmunds Basketball Club are delighted to announce that the club has been awarded Clubmark status.

Clubmark is the universally acknowledged cross sport accreditation scheme for community sports Clubs.

It stands for:

- Higher standards of welfare, equity, coaching and management in community sports clubs.

- Making sure the nation’s sports club infrastructure is safer, stronger and more successful.

- Ensuring clubs provide the right environment to encourage all its members to enjoy sport and stay involved throughout their lives.

A Clubmark accredited Club is recognised as a safe, rewarding and fulfilling place for participants of all ages as well as helping parents and carers know that they’re choosing the right Club for their young people.

Clubmark Assessor Martin Ford was effusive in his praise of the club, saying "You have an amazing club here! The committee, coaches and members are doing a fantastic job - keep up the good work!"

"This is a massive step for our club" said Chairman Ashley MacDonald, "and one that's taken a significant amount of work - particularly for Arron & Lynne - who again we really have to thank and recognise for their dedication to ensure that our club is recognised in this way."

He added "Attaining Clubmark status just underlines again the work our club has done to back up our values and culture. It shows all of the work we put in to provide a safe environment in which our members and young people can participate and compete in sport is paying off, and furthermore, this is a platform from which we can continue to grow our club."

Head Coach Arron MacDonald added "Ashley is right when he says this is a platform to build from, and we're going to be moving straight into a number of new projects of significant scale for our club - where we'll be focusing on developing the number and quality of non-players at the club, promoting and developing the female side of the club, potential improvements to our venue that would facilitate growth into younger age groups and the advent of community coaching from our club - to name just a few. We're proud of our past, and being West Suffolk's longest running club, to now become West Suffolk's only Clubmark-accredited basketball club shows we have a future to invest in, too."

If you'd be interested in joining the club either as a player or volunteer in an off-court role, please get in touch!
