Bury St. Edmunds Basketball Club are delighted to announce the first intake for the club's #IWill programme, funded by Suffolk Community Foundation through the #IWill fund.

The #IWill programme is a youth leadership programme, aimed at giving a group of our young members the opportunities, tools and qualifications to become more involved in our sport, and to become better leaders both within the club and our wider community.

The members of the programme's first class are:

Elijah Austin

Hugo Bennett

Oscar Darnell

Joseph Franks

Cian Fuller

Woody Jackson

Kacper Kasica

Charlie Lyons

Brandon Marshall

Ethan Murphy

Aiden Steel

Jim Walker

Will Witham

Joe Whiteman

As part of the programme, the #IWill candidates will work towards attaining Level 1 refereeing and coaching qualifications, and a Level 2 Table Officiating qualification. They will also support the Men's National League side as gameday volunteers and work through the Lead 'Em Up leadership programme.

Though perhaps the most important part of the programme will be the access to mentorship, as all of the members of the #IWill programme will support sides across the club - with the bulk of the participants supporting (and receiving mentorship from) Coach Hayley Rigby with the Under 12's Mixed side.

"I'm delighted at the uptake for the #IWill programme" said Head Coach Arron MacDonald. "We've really engaged with our youngest members to understand what they want, and I believe that we've delivered on that in a massive way - not only with the qualifications, and in bringing fantastic tutors and mentors in around the qualifications - like Nick Drane, Matt Ward and Hayley Rigby - but also in properly incentivising participation and ensuring that this programme will be youth-led and continue to give youngsters the opportunity to be a growing part of our club."

We'll continue to track the progress of the #IWill Class of 2022, and share updates throughout the season.
